LinkedIn - Top Tips to Make your Profile Count...
I am always asked what tips I can pass on to make the most of all social media platforms as it is important that profiles are considered and completed fully to showcase you and your business in the best possible light.
For this blog post I have chosen to look at LinkedIn as I feel it is a useful business to business networking site and often people are unsure what they need to include:
Make sure you have a clear up to date photo on your LinkedIn profile. Remember people buy people so it is important that you make the right first impression. As LinkedIn is a personal account it is important that you have your photo and not your company logo here.
2: Contact Details
It is vital that your profile has your full contact details including email address, telephone number, mobile and twitter accounts. The easier you make it for people to contact you to more chance you have of actually generating business through LinkedIn. Please also ensure you also have a link through to your website.
3: Custom URL
Make it easy for people to find you on LinkedIn - edit your custom URL so it is clear this is your profile. This is really important that, if like me, you have a common name you can be easily identified.
Review the information you have used for each section of the profile and make sure you are including as much information about you and what you offer. Bullet points work best as people do not have time to read length sections of text. Think to yourself, am I selling my skills & experience in the best possible light?
5: Build Connections
You need to build up a list of connections and there are two trains of thought on this. The first is to only connect with people you know. This will create a smaller network and can work depending on the person & industry. The second is to connect with everyone that may be of importance to you and your business, but can be too wide and needs to controlled. Remember this is not a numbers game! 6: Status Update
Plan to add a status update at least once per week. Why? This helps to get your profile found and creates an opportunity to widen your connections on the site. Keep this topical with interesting news and links to your website.
7: Join Groups
LinkedIn offers a wealth of groups you can join so you can join in conversations within your industry / location. Again, it is important that you engage so that your profile improves its exposure. Groups open up a wealth of possibilities for you to promote you business & network with new contacts.
8: Engage,Engage, Engage
In order to get the most out of Linkedin it is vital you spend at least 30 minutes across the week to review the timeline showing stories from your contacts and connections and engage with them This means liking, commenting and sharing posts of interest to you and your connections. But please remember, only share posts that you are genuinely interested in. If it is an article you are sharing, make sure you have read it first! More and more Social Media sites are putting emphasis on engagement so get into the habit now!
