As the new financial year gets underway, have you made a conscious effort to write a marketing strategy for the year ahead?

If not, how do you know the marketing activity you are doing is in the best interests of your business? The simple answer is you don't!

Whilst visiting businesses across the East Midlands it has become apparent that there are very few businesses who sit down and write a 12-month marketing strategy that covers all forms of marketing activity.  Whilst there is normally a business plan in place, marketing is often run on an ad-hoc basis with little or no monitoring. We also often hear "it's how we have always done things" - just because if worked once, doesn't mean it will always work in the same way.

Isn't it time you look to the future - not back over the last 12-months?

We help a lot of business to identify the key marketing strands to their business and plan a budget to cover all expenditure as it is vital that all activity can be measured or else how do you know if it is successful or not?

A good marketing strategy can help your business:

  • ensure marketing is carried out targeted to your client base,
  • increase client / customer opportunities
  • make sure you are spending your marketing budget in the correct places.
  • ensure communication with clients is consistent and on brand,
  • ensure both on and off-line marketing activity is joined up,
  • collect accurate data on how successful the marketing has been during the year.

A good marketing strategy need not be complicated either.  You really don't have to write reams and reams that will never see the light of day. If you make it relevant - it will work!  Our own marketing strategy consists of just 3 sheets of paper but we know what we want to achieve this year and what activity is going to help us achieve this - it's all in the planning.
